Best time to visit
Serengeti National Park can be visited throughout the year, but the best time depends on the experience a traveler wants. The dry season is often preferred for easier wildlife spotting and river crossing action in some areas, while the green season is excellent for calving, dramatic scenery, fewer crowds, and strong birdlife activity.
Peak season usually falls during the dry months, especially from June to October, when wildlife gathers more predictably around water and vegetation is thinner, making animals easier to spot. This is also the period many travelers target for migration movement and Mara River crossing experiences in the northern Serengeti, so camps and lodges are often busier and rates are usually higher.
The quieter season is generally during the green months, especially around March to May, when some areas receive heavier rains and visitor numbers tend to be lower. This period can still be very rewarding for travelers who want greener landscapes, fewer vehicles, and a more relaxed safari atmosphere, while January to March is especially notable in the southern Serengeti for wildebeest calving.
